Project 3- Concept & Mood

  1. What appeals to me about my story is that we as the audience live the story through the eyes of the narrator so whatever the narrator learns is all new to us as well. So the idea of a mystery, supernatural, and tense horror I find to be very riveting. Based on the story, we don't necessarily see a scene where our narrator is in harm's way but we get stories from the Signal Man about his encounters with the apparition. For me, I was thinking of either the terrified Signal Man looking toward the tunnel or walking away from the tunnel as you can see the apparition's big red eyes at the end of the tunnel from a distance as it eerily says "Halloa! Below there!" The figure has a left arm across its face while waving the other in a desperate warning. The setting, I was thinking about staging it like a golden rectangle where the eye is drawn to one area and I want the eye to be drawn to the figure as it is so overwhelming in nature.
  2. Tense, White Knuckled, Unnerved, Petrified, Anxious, and Terrified
  3. Purples, Shades of Dark Blue, Dark Green and one spot of dark glowing red which will be the focal point. The dominant shape that I feel should appear is a distorted rectangle as it should make you feel uncomfortable and unstable with the top of the rectangle large and thin at the bottom. The signalman should appear feeble and weak compared to the overwhelming figure and should appear skinny and not straight to show discomfort and unconfident. The lighting for the image should rely on the night's natural light effect on everything while the only two other lights shown should be the red eyes of the apparition and the flashlight reflecting on the uneasy face of the signalman.
