Before
- Narrator says "HELLO BELOW THERE!", while waving at the Signal Man on the Tracks during the daytime
- The Signalman turns to the narrator scared as he goes down the hill towards him as he stares from the train tracks
- The Signalman talks to the Narrator in his cabin by the train tracks still afraid when talking to him
- The Signalman frightened as the Narrator leaves the Signalman in the cabin alone
Currently
- The Signalman sees a figure with its left arm across its face waving at him near the tunnel at the dead of night
- He runs to the mouth of the dark tunnel to find no one there but the darkness and is afraid
- The figure appears again with both hands on its face as the Signal Man looks at it near the mouth of the tunnel sobbing in the dark
- The Signalman is shocked to see a woman died from a passing train the next morning
After
- The narrator tells the Signalman it was a hallucination in his cabin
- The Signalman says he hears ghosts whispering right now frightened while the Narrator hears nothing
- The narrator sees a mysterious figure at the mouth of the tunnel when cutting through
- The narrator find the signalman dead and is shocked in the daytime as a crowd of people surround him
